Electric Bike Thieves caught on CCTV

We have our bikes back!

Following the quick thinking of Roy at Eco Republic in Buxton we are pleased to let you know 2 criminals are now locked-up and 6 Juicy Bikes are in Police Custody (soon to be reunited with their family).

Thanks for all your kind wishes and we are humbled that so many took to ebay and gumtree to help track down the perpetrators (that's Police speak for crooks, for those that don't watch back episodes of Minder or The Sweeney).

As you know our Workshop was broken into on Friday night around 10.30pm by a gang of three hooded guys in a white box van. They smashed through a glazed door, setting off alarms and sending shards of glass throughout the showroom. Brazenly they helped themselves to 6 brand new boxed bikes from the rear of our workshop, some ready to be shipped out to customers and some waiting to be prepared.

They spent less than 10 minutes loading their (stolen) van before calmly driving off towards Manchester along the A6. Quite a risk with neighbours so close and a number of pedestrians nearby.

WERE THEY PARTICULARLY COOL, OR JUST PLAIN STUPID?

After a late night making the premises secure, detailing the lost stock and giving our witness statements 'til 3am we set about making the best of the following Saturday morning. Leigh and Alistair in New Mills getting the place safe and tidy again for visitors and Buxton's Sarah and Roy getting on with their typically busy day.

AROUND NOON A PLAN WAS HATCHED

At around 11.30am Roy received a call from a guy asking how much a bike he had was worth, and did we want to buy it? Pretty quickly it seemed clear to Roy that this gentleman was proposing to sell us several of these Brand New Boxed Bikes he happened to have in his van... idiot! The caller, not Roy; he's a star!

A STING IN THE TALE

We have a wonderful new phone system, keeping people on hold listening to some calming music whilst we try to find someone who isn't full-on busy to pick up. The beauty is it's now a free to call, 0845 number, so the gentleman, let's call him "the Villain" to get into the Sweeney Mood, the Villain doesn't know he's calling a shop local to the scene of his crime. So...

We put on our best deep drawled Cockney accent and spun them a yarn being very interested in the whole caboodle for folding money (that's cash, in other words). "We'll send some wheels. Where's your gaff?" trying very hard to sound "Regan and Carter".

DI DAR DAAARH!

Does the Sweeney theme music help set the scene?
Between us all we blagged several more calls with the dodgy geezers (those slaaags) and hatched ourselves a heist calling up help from our local Rossers...

Sorry, this is getting out of hand, but we were all getting quite excited!

With the plan to meet up formed we contacted Cheshire Police and their CID team arranged to meet up with the gang members at 6.30pm Saturday evening (sorry about the timing Officers).

AT A PLACE WE CAN'T REVEAL...

The Boys in Blue (jeans) played their roles perfectly and this story ends with the gang rounded up, a stolen van recovered and our bikes on their way back to us. We can't yet reveal the whole details of that meeting, but it was amazing to witness their complex plan at such short notice. When we can we will... on the "Blag Blog".

Needless to say we're quite humbled by the cooperation we've had from everyone involved, and absolutely staggered at the ineptitude of today's would-be crook. Reminds us of Terry and Arthur, but without Dennis Waterman singing the theme (thank God).

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

Thank you everyone for your support during our difficult weekend and we hope you've enjoyed this positive outcome as much as we have, now that we're able to reflect on our somewhat miraculous good fortune.
