Bank Holiday eBike Travel Hell? - By Sarah in Exeter

Sunday, 1st May – the day before our very first Exeter Electric Bike Hire customers are due to hire two Juicy Classic Clicks!!

To celebrate, Nick and I thought we’d find a Devon pub within cycling distance and have a nice Sunday roast lunch out for a change. There are some lovely, quaint little villages surrounding Devon’s capital, Exeter, where we live; some we know well, others we are not so familiar with. We picked a pub known for its famous carvery, in the Exe Valley, described on the pub’s website as being 5 miles from Exeter, but being vaguely familiar with some of these villages, I had an inkling it could be further. We set off on my French Blue Classic Click and Nick ‘borrowed’ one of his new fleet bikes, a Classic Sport in Heath. Up until a week ago, Nick had been using his electrically converted Giant bike for commuting to work and riding up to town at the weekends. Using the excuse that he needed to ‘test drive’ the Classic Sport, we spent last weekend on a marketing drive, leaflet dropping to lots of local places that attract visitors. Needless to say, Nick felt the difference between the Juicy and his old converted Giant and now looks for any opportunity to hop aboard!!

A pair of classic electric bikes

Hi Ken. How’re you and Alison finding the bikes? Any favourite features?

I know Alison definitely gets a lot of out of the throttle accessory. She appreciates the help setting off. And I know she chose the step through frame for the convenience.

We're also fans the being able to choose the level of assistance. It’s very useful when travelling as a group because we can easily keep to a ‘group speed’. I’m always tweaking the assistance levels to get the most out of the battery. It helps me to get as far as possible.

Juicy Bike Rider Trudy Owen rides from Sowerby to Barnsley just for the fun of it!

Trudy explains with modest words and inspiring pictures:

Firstly, I rode from home to the station at Manchester Airport and there bought a ticket to Sowerby Bridge.

Trudy lets the train take her off to the start of her fabulous weekend in Yorkshire, starting out from Manchester Airport to Sowesby.

I then followed the Calder Valley leading to Haworth Youth Hostel via the canal tow path into Hebden Bridge then over the moors passing Wuthering Heights.

I was jubilant about having an electric bike at that point!

Following a canal path through Yorkshire as part of a fabulous weekend of electric bike riding.

I stayed at the Youth Hostel and next day rode to Leeds, through early morning mist high up then again along the canal path of the Leeds to Liverpool canal route 66.

I stayed at my daughters and in the morning picked up the Trans Pennine Trail starting at the Calder Navigation in Leeds, route 67 and later following the now derelict Barnsley canal and finally finishing in Barnsley where I caught a train back to Manchester Airport via Sheffield and cycled the 5 miles home making a total of 38 miles that day with no fear of my battery running out since I have the 15 amp hour!

At the highest part of her route around Yorkshire Trudy poses with her Juicy Classic electric bike, feeling more than a little pleased about the trip.

Thanks Trudy, for letting us all know about a world we too could be exploring.  We're really pleased you had such a fabulous weekend.  May it be the first of many to come!

A Busman's Holiday

A great day out for the Juicy Bike team.

The weather was crisp and clear as we rode the back roads through Harpur Hill, then Earl Sterndale and took the track that leads from the side of High Wheeldon to the Royal Oak.

After a hearty and delicious lunch by a roaring fire we were ready to head back. We chose to go along the lanes towards Grin Low and came back into Buxton down the A53 with the winter sunlight fading over the hills.

When: January 2014

Where: Buxton and North West Peak District

Our destination, the wonderful Royal Oak at Hurdlow, Derbyshire, where the food is excellent.

We ended up at the Royal Oak Hurdlow, where the food was fantastic and the log fire welcomed us on a cold but glorious day.

Tiny Sarah tries to spruce up 6 foot 6 inch Roy for the camera.

Tiny 5' 2" Sarah tried hard to tidy 6' 6" Roy for the camera, as he tried out a Classic Grande.

Leigh keeps his distance in case Sarah decides he needs sprucing up too.

Always tidy Leigh never-the-less keeps out of reach of Sarah's determined styling - Roy you look great!

Down the Mawddach Estuary

A great day out for Juicy Biker Eric Haworth.

Eric sent us this account of what sounds like a perfect trip.  Eric has a Sport from 2012 with a standard battery and told us about this trip in June 2014.  We last saw Eric in November 2013 when he popped by for a service and to let us know how his bike was performing.  Maybe you'll bump into him around Anglesey.

When: June 2014

Where: Dolgellau down the Mawddach Estuary to Barmouth.

Electric bikes in Snowdonia north Wales

The Juicy Bike on the left is resting with a friend on the way from Dolgellau down the Mawddach Estuary to Barmouth.

The Cycle Path is traffic free with an excellent Pub serving Morning Coffee (and a refreshing pint on the return journey) a few miles after leaving the car park just outside Dolgellau.

The cycle path crosses the estuary alongside the Railway on the mile long wooden bridge.

The views are spectacular and a seafood lunch sitting in the sun outside the cafe in Barmouth opposite the harbour is excellent.

A full days return journey on the Juicy bike with power to spare!

You can find more information about this area at this Tripadvisor link.  Thanks Eric!

Gijon, Salamanca and Caceres from Poole by ferry and electric bike

John and Janet take a wonderful trip - warning, content may provoke envy!

But we're just so happy to hear about this fabulous trip!  Read Janet's account below, then plan your own...

This is the helpful hint version of our trip so first a little background info to set the scene.

John is 77 and I am 65. We bought Juicy Classic Click bikes in April. John has a 16 amp battery as after 3 replacement hips (yes 3!) and with a new knee pending he doesn't want to pedal much. I like to pedal but not to sweat over it and have a 10 amp battery. John wins the downhills and I win the uphills. We have a 2.5 litre VW campervan with one of those excellent but horribly expensive Thule bike racks that fits on the towball. We were away 26 nights May/June staying mainly in ACSI low season campsites. We were motivated by the new ferry route that opened this year – Poole to Gijon. (Gijon – pronounced Xixon  - Gheehon -  is about 176 km west of Santander)  the new route cost about £200 less than its traditional competitor so we decided to go for it. Our Juicy bikes took on the hills and the cobbled roads with ease, the only adjustment needed was to tighten up the bike stands.

Salamanca. A perfect electric bike touring destination.

Along the Middlewood Way: Sunshine, picnic and cricket - perfect!

A great day out for Juicy Biker Glenis Brockley.

We're grateful to Glenis who sent us these pictures reminding us of where we can find a perfect day out, only a few miles from our front door.

When: June 2014

Where: Middlewood Way canalside tow path.

Where do I start to tell you how much fun I've had with my Juicy Bike? I LOVE IT! It goes everywhere with us on the back of our motor home.

The pictures were taken on the Middleton Way, a perfect day out to just ride and let the cares of the world be forgotten about.

Shady nook along the Middlewood Way canalside cycling route in Cheshire.

A peaceful place with beautiful views. Great places to stop to share a picnic.

A Juicy Bike electric step-through along the Middlewood Way cycle route in Cheshire.

Cricket match seen from a day out on a Juicy electric bike in Cheshire.

The best money we've ever spent was buying my Juicy Classic Bike.

Everywhere we go people comment on what a good looking bike it is and we've recommended the bike to so many people.

Many, many thanks.

You are more than welcome Glenis and thank you for sharing these great pictures!  It's wonderful to hear about your trips on a Juicy Bike.

Around Bideford in Devon

A great day out for Juicy Biker and cow enthusiast Tina Berry

We're grateful to Tina who sent us this picture - simply unachievable without her trusty Juicy Bike!  (We're a little worried about you Tina... )

When: June 2014

Where: Lanes around Bideford in Devon.

A cow munching over the hills around Bideford, seen from an electric Juicy Bike.

Cycling through the back lanes to Bideford, this is the view you get before dropping down to the town. Having a Juicy Bike makes the climb up to this view easy peasy. I live in a beautiful part of the country and can explore it more easily on the Juicy Bike.

Well... um, we like cows too Tina.  Thanks!
